Internet Marketing ideas: Flipping Websites For Fun or Profit

April 30th, 2007 · 1 Comment

One way to earn money is by what’s called “flipping” websites.

Actually, the way most people do it, it’s a misnomer, but that’s OK. A true flip would be to buy a site cheap, improve it, and sell it for a profit, much like real estate entrepreneurs do when they flip houses.

Most Internet Marketers actually build the site, add some bare bones content to it, then sell the site to someone. Doing this can earn them maybe a $75 to $100, and considering the fact that it costs very little to register a domain, and if the person is a proficient writer only a few hours of time to write the content, it can pay some bills.

Some IM’ers claim they can do one a day, but that’s a lot of work. Someone just starting out can maybe figure on doing one a week.

A better way to flip websites would be to take it a step further. Build the site (or purchase one cheaply, we’ll show where in a minute). Improve it. Get backlinks to it either by submitting to directories, or by blogging and pinging, submitting articles to article directories for one way links back, etc. In other words the traditional SEO things.

Then if done right, after 3 or 4 months, the site should have gained some Google Pagerank, and hopefully will be earning some income.

In either of the above cases, at this point the site is immensely more valuable.

If the site is only earning a steady $50 or $100 a month (through AdSense income or from affiliate referrals), you should be able to sell it for 6 times monthly earnings, so in this case $300 to $600. Maybe more in a competitive niche if you have good rankings for good keywords.

Flipping a website for $600 vs. flipping one for $75 requires not much additional work, other than the directory submissions or the article submissions (you can use some of the same articles you put on the site already), maybe you can put up a Squidoo lens or two to get valuable links back, or maybe a couple short blog posts a week will be enough to do the trick.

Or take it a step further. With a little more patience, if you can build the income to $500 a month, then you do the math.

Flipping websites can be a tremendous income producer. If you don’t have pressing financial needs where you sacrifice your creation the same day for $75, I would suggest hanging on for the medium term. Get yourself an inventory of 50 or 100 sites. At the end of a year, you could be doing very well. Maybe well enough that you don’t want to get rid of some of them, after all, why sacrifice a site making you $500 a month for a mere $3000?

To buy, or to sell, websites, here’s where many of the pros do it:

You can use eBay also, if you’re buying you might get a much better deal.

Internet Marketing ideas: 5 Bucks a Day Blog is Now Powered by Viral Profit Machine

April 29th, 2007 · No Comments

I mentioned it the other day, that I was excited about a new concept in affiliate marketing, a set of scripts called Viral Profit Machine.

The excitement hasn’t changed, in fact I’ve been working all weekend testing, trying things, and integrating the features into this blog.

Although it will be a continual evolution, I’m happy to say that the initial integration has been completed at the 5 Bucks a Day blog, and you can easily earn income from sending visitors here. Here’s how:

Sign up at the VPM Dashboard. After entering your details (basically all you need to do is tell the system your payment details so that direct payments will go to you from Clickbank, PayDotCom, and/or PayPal. In other words, we don’t touch money due you, it is handled automatically.

While at the dashboard, you can download a copy of the user guide, something I wrote up this weekend to give you all the technical details, probably more than you need to know, but definitely something that will also assist you if and when you join any other web site’s Viral Profit Machine programs.

For every visitor you send to this blog, you can earn money. If someone that you referred purchases 5 Bucks a Day, or most of the other products on the right hand link list, you will get a commission as follows:

If they purchase my book, you get a full 50% commission for the Clickbank commission, the normal commission of course, but the beauty is you don’t have to send them to my sales page. You can just send them to the blog, where I’m sure anyone interested in Internet Marketing can find something of value. Those that like my style and recommendations eventually gravitate to purchasing the book eventually.

The trouble is, if you just sent them to the sales page, eventually might not come soon enough before your referral stops being tracked by Clickbank. With Viral Profit Machine, the referral is tracked for up to a year, as explained in the user guide I mentioned.

For sales of any of the recommended products on the link list at the right, the script will award half of the sales to you, and half to me, on a random basis. That’s right, I’m giving up half of my sales, and I won’t even know which ones because I won’t see them happen, they go directly to the referring affiliate.

Viral Profit Machine has the ability to completely change the way affiliate marketing has traditionally been done. I’m happy to be an early adapter. I trust it will entice many people to send much more traffic to this blog, and I hope you’re one of those people who end up receiving unexpected surprise affiliate payments on a frequent basis.

You can use your referral link to send traffic to the front page of the blog, or to any individual post, actually to any page on this domain if you see something you like better.

I’ll see you at the bank. :-)

eBay: eBay affiliate tracking back in business

April 27th, 2007 · No Comments

Just one final update, since I had mentioned on here a couple times that eBay tracking was off for the last 2+ weeks.

I received an email from eBay saying they had resolved the problem recently, and testing had proven that tracking is now happening properly. Sure enough my daily commissions are back to normal.

Additionally, eBay posted what they call a “make good” bonus which appeared in the CJ reports this evening. I’m not convinced it was accurate, relative to what I know I’ve been earning as an average commission per impression for the past couple years, but it’s time to move on and start expanding campaigns again, rather than what many have done recently, which understandably was to slow down or pause them.

Onward and upward.

Internet Marketing ideas: Viral Profit Machine for viral profits?

April 27th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I’ve been around the block a few times, so I don’t succumb to hype very often. If you read the sales letter for Viral Profit Machine it’s full of hype.

How can anyone say with a straight face that it will change internet marketing forever?

Funny thing, though. It just might.

I’m happy to say I was quick to jump on the bandwagon for the $7 Secrets idea, which was introduced by the same individual, Jon Leger, and I wasn’t wrong there.

Internet Marketing ideas: Procrastination and how it affects your success

April 25th, 2007 · No Comments

I read a report last night that I wish I would have read a long time ago. It’s called Break Procrastination, and unfortunately I noticed myself in it.

I’m not totally talking about putting off unpleasant tasks like cleaning the gutters, going to the dentist, or having a talk with your teenager about the birds and the bees.

Yes, those habits are procrastination also, and those habits should be changed, but I’m talking about the type of procrastination that can cost you thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of dollars. Or more.

How did I recognize myself in this report? Before I stumbled upon and started doing the action steps that eventually evolved into the 5 Bucks a Day strategy, I was constantly going from one new scheme to another. I wrote about it on the sales page and inside the book if you want to read it, so I won’t belabor the point here.

Internet Marketing ideas: Finding those great domain names

April 24th, 2007 · No Comments

Here’s a short tip.

If you’re used to spending a lot of time using trial and error to find domain names for your new niche sites, you’ll love Psychic WhoIs, all you have to do is start typing and it will start showing you names that have been taken, or are available, using the auto complete type of function.

Just a suggesting, turn off the animated tips by clicking on the hide animated tips link, if you’re like me it will be distracting.

Check it out, it’s a lot of fun to play with. Occasionally it will tell you one that is available that isn’t when you go to register it, I guess there’s a lag in reporting times, but it’s really pretty cool.

Internet Marketing ideas: Earning Money With Your Computer

April 24th, 2007 · No Comments

One frequent question I get from new readers is: how do I start?

Although 5 Bucks a Day is advertised as a strategy primarily designed for those that already have marketing skills of some type, not for newbies, there have been some that have purchased without an idea about how to earn their first dollar.

Not that that’s a bad thing, it’s just not the audience I had in mind. Fortunately purchasers of the book have access to a forum filled with some very helpful and very knowledgable members who collectively know a heck of a lot more than I do, so it takes a lot of the pressure off.

In answering the “how do I start” question, I tell people to pick a path and become proficient. There are lots of different ways to earn money as an internet marketer, someone needs to figure out a way that they’re comfortable with, and then set about learning all they can learn to develop the skills necessary to succeed.
