A question came up the other day on our Earn1KaDay forum about the fact that friends and family of Internet marketers generally have no clue about what we do.
If you’re an IM’er, how do you explain what you do? I’d like to know myself, so if you have a good answer, please post a comment.
I generally don’t answer the question directly anymore, when someone asks “What do you do?”, I usually say something like “I sell stuff online”, and they will say something like “you mean on eBay”, and I’ll say, “yeah, on eBay and I have some websites”, and generally leave it at that.
If they press, I might say I wrote a book that I sell online also, which generates some interest, but that’s about as far as I take it unless I know I’m dealing with someone who knows what e-Books are and membership sites, and that kind of thing.
It’s sort of frustrating to be in hiding, not able to explain what I do. If I were a doctor or lawyer or used car salesman, it would be a lot easier. I like what I do, the income is great, the flexible hours are great, the ability to work for myself and do whatever I want to do on a given week is great. I wouldn’t trade this for anything.
But still, it’d be nice to have a good answer for what I do.
