Squidoo: Squidoo format changes

May 7th, 2007 · No Comments

This started appearing a week or so ago, but I didn’t mention it.

If you haven’t been over to Squidoo lately, take a look. The formats of the lenses have changed. Instead of two columns, there are three.

I guess it was an attempt to get more information “above the fold”.

Personally I don’t like it, because on my office computer I have the resolution set at 800×600, and at that setting part of the screen is off the right hand side, so I have to scroll to see everything. I find that annoying.

That’s OK though, if they’ve actually tested out the changes to see if this format is more effective. I was told that you can go back to the original style if you unclick the “maxed” checkbox on max/min for the lens.

For now, I’ll keep it as is, though it hasn’t caused any jump at all in earnings, in fact they seem down on average.

Squidoo: Using Squidoo for Internet Marketing

March 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Personally, I love Squidoo. It’s relatively new. They allow you to link to your web site or affiliate merchant. Once you get used to the interface, there is a lot you can do with it very easily, such as add RSS feeds to your “lens”, amazon.com modules, eBay auctions, iTunes, lots of neat stuff for which you can get paid for.

I’ve been trying to learn as much as I could about it, and recently I bought an eBook on the subject, by Tiffany Dow, called Social Networking on Squidoo. If you’re in the learning phase, or just past it, you should check out that book.

But that’s not what I want to mainly tell you about. Tiffany recently held a contest to see who could end up with the best ranked lens for the same term. She went head to head with a couple dozen or her readers, and actually 2 of them beat her out.

You can pick up the free report which tells some of the things the various people did to achieve the high rankings. It’s great stuff. Pick up your Squidoo Cheat Sheet now, it’s free, and it’s great.
