eBay Tracking Problems

There have been eBay tracking problems since (in my opinion) April 1st, and in eBay’s opinion since April 7th.

The problems have been acknowledged both by emails from eBay and by statements made by eBay staff in their own affiliate forum.

I’ve said many times that eBay has the most generous affiliate program I’ve encountered in all my years of affiliate marketing. eBay has said that they’ll be calculating a “make good” bonus when everything is ironed out.

Success Thoughts

I owned and operated a retail store for 13 years full time, and another 3 years part time. I shut it down for good a couple years ago so that I could spend more time online doing what I was doing, since I decided I couldn’t do both things well at the same time.

My store sold collectibles, sports cards, comics, autographed memorabilia, that kind of thing, and over the years I accumulated tons of unsold inventory. It went with the territory, dealers always tended to speculate in hot items, made their money, but never quite sold out of anything.

Phil Wiley’s forum is off the air, but there’s good news!

Phil Wiley publishes a semi-regular email newsletter, it’s actually one of the few that I look forward to getting. In today’s issue, he mentions that his long time forum is now out of business.

It seems that originally it was hacked, and then he moved it to another server, and the host evidently didn’t do backups. So a hard disk crash wiped out everything. What a shame.

But the good news is that Phil consented to do an interview with an associate, and turned it into a product that only sells for $17, with enough good information to justify a price of $47 or more.

Is cheap web hosting advisable?

Many of the readers of my book, 5 Bucks a Day are Internet Marketers that have been in the same position I was before it started working for me.

In other words, they’ve been trying like crazy to make a profit and it just wasn’t happening. It’s always gratifying to hear about those who read the book and then started making progress. Some start out with baby steps, some make drastic improvements virtually overnight. In either case, they become very happy, and hearing the success stories is very gratifying.

Sometimes it just takes the willingness to back off and determine what you really want to do.

eBay affiliate program tracking problems

I’ve been sort of silently waiting for the problem to resolve itself, but so far no satisfaction, and I’m wondering how many others are in this same situation.

As I’ve mentioned, I’m a big proponent of the eBay affiliate program. I’ve always considered it to be just about the most generous affiliate program on the Internet, and I’ve been doing very well with it since 2005.

However recently there seems to have been a problem tracking winning bids, at least, and also perhaps new registrations (though those seem closer to what they should be).

Scams, lies, and other reasonable questions

I’ve sold an awful lot of copies of 5 Bucks a Day and 5 Bucks a Day, Jr., and for that I’m very thankful and blessed.

It’s not often that I get an email from someone blasting me, but I got one yesterday, and thankfully it was someone who didn’t purchase the book. Here’s a part of the email that was significant:

If I have learned anything on the internet it is most people are peddling things they do not make money with unless they suck people into buying the information. So if your information and idea’s work so good why are you peddling the information? Easy answer money!!

The person was obviously looking for a reason to purchase, or he was looking for someone to dump on, and he probably didn’t expect me to write back to him. Most gurus won’t. Most gurus don’t even have a public email address that they monitor.

Don’t forget to make backups!

I haven’t written for a few days. It was a long weekend, it was a holiday, the weather was awful, but that wasn’t the problem.

I came home Saturday, all geared up to finally add some power to my home computer, an old Dell T550 that was sorely in need of more horsepower. I figured adding some more memory would do the trick.

Memory upgrades are simple, I’ve done it several times before on various computers. So no problem, I opened up the box, inserted the chip, closed the box, plugged everything in, and powered up.

Windows came up, started to draw my desktop, and then crashed.
